Drawing Classes

at The Metropolitan Museum of Art

with John Varriano, American Artist

Develop your drawing skills through weekly instruction inside one of the world's greatest art museums.

  • Museum Admission Included
  • Skill Level: Beginner to Advanced
  • Students may switch class days when needed

Join acclaimed American artist John Varriano for an ongoing series of drawing classes held at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Working directly from the museum's extraordinary collection, students receive structured instruction designed to strengthen observation, improve draftsmanship, and deepen their understanding of form, proportion, and artistic expression.

Classes meet weekly within the museum's renowned galleries, where students draw from some of the finest examples of classical and historical sculpture ever assembled. Through guided demonstrations and personalized instruction, John helps students develop the skills artists have relied upon for centuries.

In the Greek and Roman galleries, students study portrait busts, monumental figures, bas-reliefs, and decorative works that reveal the enduring principles of classical design. Particular attention is given to proportion, gesture, anatomy, expression, drapery, and the visual rhythms that bring a drawing to life.

In the European Sculpture Court, students work from masterpieces spanning the Renaissance, Baroque, Neoclassical, and Modern periods, gaining firsthand experience drawing from works that have inspired generations of artists.

Whether your goal is to strengthen fundamental drawing skills, prepare for painting, or pursue a deeper understanding of classical art, these classes provide a unique opportunity to study, observe, and draw in the presence of some of history's greatest works.
